Leicester Business

Michael Acton Smith launched the now popular gadget and gift web site www.firebox.com in 1998 with co-founder Tom Boardman in an attic.

The business man inspiringly goes on to share the rest of his story with a crowd of 80 or more east midlands business entrepreneurs at the National Space Centre in Leicester. He spoke of how he started with a small loan of £1000. He went on to source £500,000 Venture Capital in the dot.com boom, recorded a trading loss of 400,000, then downsized the business and went on to gain £400,000 profit the following year with continued success, reports Growth Investment Network.

After the seemingly rollercoaster ride, Michael Acton Smith runs a successful firebox.com, also the founder of Mind Candy and co-founder of the Glass House Group’s Second Chance Tuesday.
