Google officially says NO to keywords tag!

Search Engines

Its finally official. For those that know something of SEO, this will come as no surprise. Though we still hear plenty of stories from new enquiries either about the keywords that they’ve been advised to include in this tag or some computer generated SEO report provided that has included evaluating this tag and what to add for Google. The simple answer for Google at least, is don't bother! So it’s great that the head of Web spam at Google, Matt Cutts has finally today made this official.

Back in the late 1990’s, websites could be ranked higher in Google by adding keywords to the keyword meta tag. This was a huge factor attributing to what we all became aware of as Search Engine spam. A dating website for example could add unrelated keywords such as ‘knitting’ and appear in results for that keyword. The search engines have advanced somewhat since then, which means that we get more relevant results. However those computer generated SEO reports are still out there, that will tell website owners different. Google Head of Web spam Matt Cutts speaks on - Google does not use the Meta tag!
