The two brothers that developed Google Maps Jens and Lars Rasmussen are the creators of this new highly anticipated application.

Google Wave was created in the view that email was invented more than 40 years ago, before the Internet and lacks the potential that brings. Google Wave is said to offer a shared user experience as well as much more facilities than traditional email. At Google I/O one of the creators compared traditional email with snail mail to give an indication of what Google Wave will be capable of.

Instant messaging is another means of communication that we are all familiar with and Google Wave is a browser-based system that is said to combine Email, Instant Messaging plus much more. Although still in early stages and many features are yet to be built, Google have released some details about the new communication tool that the creators described as being what Email would be, if invented today. Bringing Social Networking into email also has implications for email marketing.

Google say:

“A "wave" is equal parts conversation and document, where people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.”

“In Google Wave you create a wave and add people to it. Everyone on your wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets, and even feeds from other sources on the web. They can insert a reply or edit the wave directly. It's concurrent rich-text editing, where you see on your screen nearly instantly what your fellow collaborators are typing in your wave. That means Google Wave is just as well suited for quick messages as for persistent content — it allows for both collaboration and communication. You can also use "playback" to rewind the wave and see how it evolved.”
