Although Google is no doubt the current NO1 search engine in the UK, this has been marked as Microsoft’s biggest attempt yet to change Google for a bigger market share. Microsoft Bing succeeds Microsoft Live Search.
Stefan Weitz, director of Microsoft Search talks about getting to the roots of we all want from search today as speed, relevance, previews and multimedia.
To combat people clicking on ‘bad’ links, i.e. the ones that people don’t want, they came up with the following features.
Features for Bing http://www.bing.com/ :
Autosuggesting keywords, as displays below the Google and Yahoo search box when a search term is entered.
Instant answers pulls structured answers to queries from across the web onto the search page. Such as a query for the weather in Leicester http://www.bing.com/search?q=weather+in+leicester&go=&form=QBRE&filt=all returns today’s and the rest of the weeks forecast. This is similar to Asks Smart Search.
I Bing optimised query such as one for the celebrity Lewis Hamilton http://www.bing.com/search?q=Lewis+Hamilton&go=&form=QBRE&filt=all returns results in categories, images and left navigation links dedicated to your search term to filter results further.
