UK 2009 Internet Advertising expenditure £3.5 billion

Internet Trends

UK Internet Advertising expenditure grows 4.2% to £3.5 billion In 2009.

Internet advertising spend continued to grow throughout 2009 despite an overall advertising spend decline. This is according to a two part yearly report conducted by PwC.

As a percentage of total retail sales, Internet sales have risen from 3% to 8% between 2007 and 2010, according to the Office of National statistics data.  There is no wonder why businesses are making the most of this medium to reach customers.

Google is still taking the marketshare of Internet search engine users at a near 80% majority. And PPC (pay per click) campaigns like Google Adwords and other paid search accounted for more than 60% of all advertising spend, proving the leader for paid online marketing in the UK.  In 2009 paid search reached £2.15 billion pounds to target now nearly 40,000,000 UK online users.
